WIBA Insurance Cover
WIBA (Work Injury Benefit Act) insurance, commonly referred to as WIBA insurance cover, is a crucial form of protection designed to safeguard both employers and employees in the event of work-related injuries. This specialized insurance ensures that employees are entitled to compensation for medical expenses, disability, and even death resulting from work-related accidents or illnesses. WIBA insurance policy is essential for businesses to comply with legal requirements and to provide comprehensive protection for their workforce in case of unforeseen workplace incidents.
Benefits payable under WIBA insurance policy.
WIBA insurance cover ensures that the affected employer or employee has the following taken care of:
- Medical Expenses: WIBA covers the cost of necessary medical treatment, including hospitalization, surgery, medication, and any other required services.
- Temporary Total Disability Benefit: If the injured employee is temporarily unable to work due to the injury, WIBA provides a temporary total disability benefit. This is usually a percentage of the employee’s earnings.
- Permanent Partial Disability Benefit: In cases where the injury results in a permanent partial disability, WIBA provides compensation based on the degree of impairment. The compensation amount is determined by a schedule of disabilities outlined in the Act.
- Permanent Total Disability Benefit: If the injury leads to permanent total disability, WIBA provides ongoing compensation for the employee’s lifetime.
- Death Benefits: In the unfortunate event of a work-related fatality, WIBA offers death benefits to the dependents or beneficiaries of the deceased employee. This includes a lump sum payment and sometimes a monthly pension.
- Funeral Expenses: WIBA covers reasonable funeral expenses in the event of a work-related fatality.
Compensation is payable in accordance with the provisions of the WIBA Act 2007 where the maximum benefit is set at 96 months’ salary. However, it’s important to note that the specific benefits and their amounts may vary based on the severity of the injury, the duration of disability, and other factors.
